Happy Birthday, Flow!

By Luke on March 21, 2012

On March 21, 2011, we published a post announcing Flow for the first time, describing it as "the place where everything you need to get done comes together." Hard to believe it, but here we are, one year later. Flow’s first birthday.

Since that launch, we’ve gotten a lot done, and more than a few things have come together. We’ve released a ton of features and updates, over 110,000 people have used Flow to work and collaborate, close to three million tasks have been created, and we’ve helped...

New to Flow: Inline Audio & Video

By Luke on March 20, 2012

Back in December, we rolled out a handy little feature that made it possible to attach image and audio files to your tasks directly from Flow’s free iPhone app. Since then, we’ve been making recordings of everything from team meetings to on-the-fly brainstorming sessions, and it’s been great.

Mostly.

The only thing is that until now, playing media files in the web app has meant opening a new window in your browser (it isn’t inline, in other words). It’s a small thing, and maybe you didn’t...

Shared Tags Are Live

By Luke on March 14, 2012

We’re happy to announce that after two weeks of polishing and perfecting by the Flow Team, Shared Tags are now live.

That means from now on, your collaborators can view any tags you add to a task just as they can other task details like due dates or followers, giving you a simple way to organize tasks that everyone on your team can follow and understand.

Since mentioning the switch two weeks ago, we heard from a few people with concerns that this change would have an effect on all permissions...

Flow Update: Shared Tags

By Luke on February 29, 2012

For those of you wanting a more flexible way to organize tasks with your collaborators, you’ll have another option to choose from soon. Beginning Wednesday, March 14, all tags in Flow will be shared.

This means anyone who can view one of your tasks will also be able to see all of the tags you’ve created for that task (as well as for any other tasks in the same list) making it easier than ever for teams to organize tasks in a way everyone can understand.

Why Shared Tags?

With shared tags, you...

Flow Update: New Non-Flash Uploader

By Luke on February 17, 2012

If you’ve noticed you’re spending less time than usual attaching and uploading files to Flow, there’s a good reason for it. We’ve been hard at work on a new browser-native uploader that will speed things up and address a few issues the old Flash-based uploader was causing, and it’s just been released this week.

Although Flash was once a commonly used plugin, it’s earned a less-than-stellar reputation in recent years as a bug-prone resource hog, especially compared to some of the other options...

Flow Tip: Recurring Tasks

By Luke on February 10, 2012

If you’re the sort of person who likes to keep a steady routine, chances are there’s a list of tasks you find yourself creating over and over again. Daily emails, weekly team check-ins…they all fall into that I-need-a-task-but-I’d-rather-not-have-to-make-a-new-one-every-time category.

Luckily, you don’t! Using Flow’s Recurring Tasks, you can set any task to automatically repeat according to whatever schedule works best for you.

The New GetFlow.com

By Luke on February 1, 2012

It’s pretty rewarding to watch one of your designs evolve from a rough idea in the back of someone’s brain to a full-blown site or app. Like watching your kid grow up, develop a personality, and head off into the world, you can’t help but feel proud of what you’ve accomplished. And when the project is personal, the feeling is just that much sweeter.

Which is why it’s with great pride that we’d like to introduce you to the new, improved, and beautifully re-imagined Flow site. By bringing in...

Flow Tip: Emailing Bookmarks to Flow

By Luke on January 24, 2012

If you spend a lot of time on the go, you’re probably familiar with the frustration of trying to read long articles or browse text-heavy sites on your mobile’s tiny little screen. Apps like Evernote or Instapaper might make bookmarking things a lot simpler than before, but then you’ve still got to remember to search through those programs to find your link.

Luckily, most mobile browsers have an option to quickly share links to whatever pages you’re browsing. And that’s where Flow’s email integration...

Flow Welcomes Jesse Lupini & Martin Rechsteiner

By Luke on January 17, 2012

We’re excited to welcome two fantastic new people to the Flow team: Martin Rechsteiner and Jesse Lupini.

Martin has come to us straight from the wilds of Norway (Trondheim) and will be helping Luke out with all things design. When not making things look so good you want to burst into tears and then submerge yourself in a bath of ice water, he can be found darning his trademark scarf or wandering the streets trying not to look lost. His impressions of life at MetaLab so far? “Superawesome.”
